Project Profile: Poudre School District

South Bus Terminal Fueling Station Design & Installation
Fort Collins, Colorado

CGRS serves a wide range of clients, both in the public and private sector. As a locally owned and operated business we are committed to our community and grateful for each opportunity we get to deliver solutions for clients in our home town. We have established a strong working relationship with the Poudre School District, and have recently had the opportunity to team up for a very exciting project.

Poudre School District is a high-performing district, covering more than 1,800 square miles in northern Colorado with diverse school settings.  While more than 70% of the district’s families choose to send their children to their neighborhood school, the district does support school choice and offers a wide spectrum of educational programs to fit any child’s needs. Program options include International Baccalaureate, Core Knowledge, Bilingual/Dual Language Immersion, Hybrid/Online, Expeditionary Learning, Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM) along with extra-curriculars and athletics. The district also has two (2) LEED certified school buildings and over 30 Energy Star awards and supports operational sustainability in all areas of work.

Poudre School District has a contract with the City of Fort Collins to fuel diesel school buses at their TransFort facility. This facility is used primarily by school buses that operate out of Poudre School District’s South Transportation Terminal at 6425 Portner Rd, Fort Collins, CO.

The City of Fort Collins has transitioned away from diesel buses and has advised Poudre School District of their intent to close their diesel fueling pumps. As a result the Poudre School District purchased a 10,000 gallon, UL 2085 rated, fuel tank for their South Transportation Terminal.

CGRS was contracted to design build this new fueling station for the school district. The scope of work included site design and site preparation needed to set a 10,000-gallon AST, 400 gallon DEF cabinet, card reader, two single hose dispensers at a distance to allow simultaneous fueling of two 77-passenger buses, and remote tank monitoring. This work included the installation of all piping, electrical, data, and other infrastructure necessary for pump operation and data transmission and the installation of the necessary lighting for safe nighttime operation of the fueling station.

Since there was limited space on the property the desired tank pad location was on the far west of the terminal that required excavating into an embanked area and installing a 8-foot retaining wall to house the fueling facility.

The school districts South Bus Terminal is now online, which makes for more independence when it come to their fueling operations. CGRS is also under contract to renovate PSD’s North Bus Terminal, stay tuned for that update!
